Bringing in 2016

Dallas got his wish - to be surrounded by beautiful women to bring in the new year.

The ladies insisted on a full body shot.

The photos are done and it's time to start partying.

The snacks look delicious.

There are plenty of drinks, including water to stay hydrated.

Everyone did get their dresses off the rack, although the dress Taren selected needed some alterations.  It looked dated because the solid pattern you see at the top was the entire dress, floor length.  But Taren loved the sleeves and couldn't walk away from it.  Leera cut the bottom half off and added the sheer bottom to update the dress.  Although she didn't want to make any dresses, she was okay with a quick alteration.

The entire crew and I wish you a very Happy New Year! ~ Jaye

Open House at Select Spaces

The Select Spaces Open House is today.  Henna told Dominic that she invited members of her family to it.  As a special courtesy, Dominic has given Henna's family early entry, an hour before the event begins, so they can take their time and look around.

Things are getting set up and each of the four buildings has one of the four basic set ups offered. There are samples of menu suggestions and additional items based on the type of space set up selected.  None of the display items are for consumption, however, once the actual event begins, the servers will provide samples of several menu items as they pass from building to building.

Let's join the family on their tours, shall we?

We'll start in the building with the Romantic Space, where Henna and her mother, Fatima, are chatting.

Fatima:  I also like how they offer candy.  That would come in handy for the man who isn't sure where to get the right chocolate.  Why are these cushions different?
Henna:  The seat on the left has the basic chair cushion.  It will be on the chair for most romantic dinners.  On the right is a sample of a cushion used for the Christmas holidays.  Valentine's Day will have special cushions and there will be other cushions added in for other reasons.
Fatima:  Oh, that's really good.  Keep it fresh.

While they are chatting the door opens and in walks Tandra and Kelvin Brennan - Fatima's brother and sister-in-law and Henna's aunt and uncle.

After greeting each other, the converse.

Kelvin (to Fatima):  I haven't seen much of you since you arrived.  When can you come to dinner?
Fatima:  I'm sorry.  I have been to your house several times.
Kelvin:  Sure, always when I'm not there or just to grab Tandra so you two can go shopping.
Tandra:  This is a lovely room, Henna.
Henna:  Thank you.
Fatima:  I know.  I've been spending time with my girls and my granddaughter.  You know how it is when you haven't see the kids in a while.  Let me know when you want me to come by.

Tandra (turning to Kelvin):  Honey, we need to make a reservation to eat here.  We need the best package they offer.  The most romantic, then we can go home for the...the...What's that called?
Kelvin:  What?
Tandra:  When you do the same thing again, but not the same, but after.
Kelvin:  Either it's to be continued or a sequel.
Tandra:  Si. Sequel is the word.
Henna:  So about that dinner, am I invited, Uncle Kel?

Henna knows her aunt, so before she goes too far, she changes the subject.

Let's join Syren in the building set up for general or family dining.  She has walked in to find her cousin, Windsor Brennan, looking around.  Windsor is the eldest child of Tandra and Kelvin.

Syren:  We could come here and have this all to ourselves.  That's pretty cool.  Most places only have reserved rooms for large parties.
Windsor:  It's a good idea.  I want to check out the romantic space.
Syren:  Where is Cameron, by the way?
Windsor:  He had a shift today at the hospital.  He said there are several surgeries scheduled and the hospital needed more than a few anesthesiologists on deck.
Syren: Oh! So have you checked out this food?

Windsor:  It looks delicious.  I'm a little hungry.  I hope they start passing out the taste samples soon.
Syren:  Me too.  I'm anxious to get a sip of those yummy looking mixed drinks too.
Windsor (laughing):  Well, you may want to get some food in that belly first to soak it up.  Let me take a closer look at these desserts.

After walking over to the table, Syren and Windsor try to get what is is in the dessert in the parfait cup.  In walks Tyquan, Quinn's off and on again boyfriend, carrying their daughter, Tylyn.

Syren:  Hey, you two!  How are you?
Tyquan:  Hi!  We're good.  Just taking it all in.
Tylyn:  Hi!  We're just takin' it aw in.
Syren:  Good idea.
Windsor:  Hi.  This place is pretty nice, right?
Tyquan:  It is.

Windsor decides she should stop torturing herself by staring at food.  She walks over to see her niece.

Windsor:  How are you, Honey Bunny?
Tylyn:  I'm okay.
Windsor:  You look so pretty in your dress.  You're such a little princess.
Tylyn:  Thank you.

That's so cute, but we have a couple more buildings to stop by.  Ember and Erwyn are in the building with the social set up.

Erwyn:  Mom, can you drink what's in the glasses?
Ember:  Yes, technically you can, but what's in most of them is only for adults.  This is a nice room to look around, but it's a room for adult parties.
Erwyn:  Oh.  Well, I like it.  It looks like the last one, but different.
Ember:  Yes.  Maybe we come come eat in the one that's for everyone to use, even children.  Would you like to do that?
Erwyn: Yes.

As they are talking, in walks Dominic Balducci and Parker Hayes.

Dominic:  Hi, I'm Dominic Balducci, the owner and operator of Select Spaces.
Parker:  Hi.
Ember:  Hello.  I'm Ember.  I have met Parker before.  It's nice to meet you, Mr. Balducci and it's nice to see you again, Parker.
Parker:  It's nice to see you both too.
Dominic:  You can call me Dominic.  I feel like I should know you.
Ember (smiles):  That's probably because you have been looking at Henna for a while.  She's my sister.
Dominic:  Oh!  Well that would explain it.  It's very nice to meet you.  What do you think of Select spaces?
Ember:  I like it.  Erwyn and I were just talking about having dinner here.

Dominic (offering his hand to Erwyn): I'm pleased to make your acquaintance.  I'm also pleased you would like to be my first customer.
Erwyn (grinning):  Hi.  I'm pleased too. We are going to have dinner here.  But not in the adult room because I can't drink their stuff.
Dominic (tickled by Erwyn's comment):  Well, if you like the way this is set up, you can eat in a room like this.  And I think we can make you a drink so delicious, adults will wish they had it instead of the other ones for adults.
Erwyn:  I like that.
Dominic:  Good.  Well, I hate to run, but I was walking around checking to see how things are before the crowd arrives.  I have to get back to work.  Please enjoy yourself and remember, at Select Spaces, we have a space for you.
Ember: Thank you.

Dominic leaves and Parker has a seat.

Parker:  I just need to rest for a minute.  I was here earlier to check out a refrigerator issue as a favor. They couldn't get a tech in her fast enough. Then I had to run home and change and rush back.
Ember:  I wish I had someone to fix my refrigerator.  It's been acting up.  Not dead, but having some random freezing issues.  I know I need a new one, but I am trying to hold off until it really does die.
Parker:  Well maybe it's just an easy fix or at least a cheaper one than buying a new one.
Ember:  Maybe.  I'm calling a repairman to see.  But enough of my refrigerator.  How are Craig and Avery?  Are they coming?
Parker:  No.  Craig is at the firehouse and Avery just didn't feel like coming out.

Quinn walks in the door.

Quinn:  Hey, Erwyn!  Hi, Ember. (turns to Parker) Hello.
Everyone greets Quinn.
Quinn (to Ember): Have you seen Tyquan and Tylyn?
Ember:  No, not yet.  We've been sitting here for a while, but I do want to see the other set ups.

Erwyn:  Are you going to look for Tylyn?
Quinn:  Yes.  Do you want to come with me?
Erwyn:  Yes, please.
Quinn:  Okay.  Come on.  Let's go find those two.

Ember stands up since she wants to look at the set ups she hasn't seen yet.

Quinn (to Parker):  By the way, I'm Quinn.  What's your name?
Parker:  I'm Parker.  It's nice to meet you.
Ember:  This is my cousin on my mother's side.  Her father is my mother's brother.
Parker:  Thank you.  Are any of your parents here?  Henna mentioned your mother is visiting for a while.
Ember:  Yes, my mother is here.  You will be able to meet her.  Well, we'd better get going.
Parker:  Of course.  And if you really want to save a buck on that refrigerator, I can take a quick look at it for you.  At the very least, it will save you the service call fee.
Ember:  Oh!  Well, thank you.  Before I leave, I'll get your number and we can set up a time for you to look at it.  I appreciate it.
Parker:  No problem.

They all leave the building.  Quinn takes Erwyn with her and finds Tyquan in the building with the romantic set up.  Henna heads over to the building with the business meeting set up.  Her mother and sister are there.  They all sit down and chat.

Ember:  I know this is going to be a shock, but I have a date.
Fatima:  A date!  Really?  With who?
Ember: With a gentleman I met while visiting a client, the catalog company.  I kept running into him when I went to visit for meetings.  He works in the sales department as an account executive.  He asked me a couple times and at first I said no, but I changed my mind.

Henna stares at Ember.  She's wondering what prompted this, but she's also excited to hear her sister is ready to date again.

Henna:  What made you change your mind?
Ember:  He's attractive and although I don't feel drawn to him, I thought at least it would be a way to break the ice and try dating.  I won't be so crushed if it doesn't get past the first date.

Fatima:  Good idea.  When are you going and do you need a sitter?
Henna:  That is a good idea.  You may as well get all the sitting you can while Mom's still here.  Erwyn can come over and we'll do some girly stuff.
Fatima:  Really?
Henna:  Ember is going on her first date in a long time.  We have to support her.
Ember:  Thank you!

The ladies continue to chat about Ember's date and then it's time for the event to begin and the food and drinks to be sampled.

Thank you for taking a tour of Select Spaces.  I'm sure we'll see more of it. ~ Jaye

Henna and Carly Start the Day

It's Monday morning, a few days before New Year's Eve, and Henna has just arrived in her office - Henriched Interior Designs.

Henna:  Good morning, Carly.  How was your holiday weekend?
Carly:  It was wonderful.  I hope you enjoyed yours.
Henna:  I did.  My mother cooked mostly everything for Christmas.  My sisters and niece came over. We had a good time, so it was nice.

Carly:  Nothing like enjoying Christmas with family.  I'm also looking forward to New Year's Eve.  I have some fun plans.
Henna:  Good for you.  I don't have big plans.  Maybe a bottle of champagne while I'm curled up in front of the television with a book.  It's cozy and peaceful.
Carly:  I'm surprised you weren't invited out for the evening.
Henna:  I was, but I don't feel like going out.  I just want to enjoy relaxing.

Carly:  Speaking of enjoying, is that a cup of coffee from my favorite cafe which you brought me to enjoy?
Henna:  Yes, I got a refill in my cup and a fresh cup for you.  I already added the caramel flavored cream you like while I was there.
Carly:  Thank you!  I started to stop there myself, but I didn't want to be late.  Besides, those baked goods always call to me.
Henna (smiling):  They are delicious and I think they were waving at me.  But I had to resist.  Well, here's your coffee.

Henna sets down the cup of coffee she picked up for Carly and tells her she's going to head to her office.
Henna:  After you've managed to get a few sips in, please come in so we can meet.
Carly:  Okay.  I'll be just a couple of minutes.
Henna:  In ten minutes will be fine, enjoy some of your coffee before it cools down.  It probably only managed to stay so hot because of this warm weather we're having.
Carly:  Okay.  Ten minutes.

Henna sits down, takes out her laptop and starts reviewing her calendar for the current week and next. Then she switches to her 'to do' list to be sure she has updated it, although she reviewed it Friday morning.

After 10 minutes exactly, Carly comes in and has a seat to start meeting with Henna.

Henna:  Please be sure to try to confirm if our prospective clients are going to attend the open house at Select Spaces.  I'm hoping seeing my work up close and personal will push them to sign a contract. Dominic is more than happy to talk about how pleased he is with the work we did.
Carly:  That's a win win for us and him.  Free advertising.
Henna:  Yes, it is.  I hope it pays off.  I'll bring business cards.  Please make sure you have a supply in case you happen to overhear anyone ask for one or asking about what we do.
Carly:  I will.

Henna:  I also need to have copies of the floor plan I drafted for the Richmond's boutique sent over to Eel Electric to review.  We'll need to include that in the updated quote since they are switching to a new property.
Carly:  I'll pull it from the shared drive and get it over.  Do you think the Richmond account will move forward?  They seem to keep changing their minds about where they want to be located.
Henna:  I know.  This is number three and my third floor plan. However, we have a sizable deposit, so I think we'll at least be retained until they are ready to start construction.

Carly:  I like the layout.  It's pretty open.  I can't wait to shop there.
Henna (laughing):  At the rate they are going, you won't have a choice but to wait.
Carly (starts laughing too): I guess you're right.  Then I won't hold my breath.

Henna:  I also need you to send this check out to make the deposit for the furniture order for the MacDougal job.  Their check to us cleared, so we can get that done.
Carly:  I'll pull up the account and put a copy of the order specifications in the envelope so they won't mix anything up.
Henna:  Okay.  And please update the accounting file for that job to note we sent the deposit.  I'll reconcile when the statement comes in.

Henna reviews a few more important items on her list before she and Carly are ready to end their meeting.  Carly gets up to leave.

Henna:  I just remembered one more thing.  Now that this job is over, I need to formally meet with Parker Hayes.  I like that he worked fast.  Our client seems pleased with the quality and execution and I am too.  I think we have ourselves a main contractor.  So, please set up a meeting with him next week.
Carly:  Great!  I'll take care of it.
Henna:  Thank you for all of your help.

Carly heads back to her desk to get to work and Henna starts working too.

It's so exciting.  Select Spaces is finally ready to open.  They were planning to open right before Christmas, but decided they may get a better turnout when people are in the partying mood right before New Year's.  We'll see how it goes.

It's almost time for 2016.  Do you have big plans?  ~ Jaye

Last White Christmas Photo

It's time to take the last photo shoot for the White Christmas scene.  While they wait for Leera to arrive, Song is looking at her hair in the table mirror and Taren and Waverly are eating.

Waverly:  This is pretty delicious.  I love Christmas!  So many lovely and delicious things have been arriving.
Taren:  I know.  It almost makes me want to be sure I put in a bid to participate in next year's theme. But I'm kind of hoping I can celebrate with my new family and have you guys over.
Waverly:  What do you think, Song?
Song:  Right now, I think my hair hasn't come out as good as for the last two shoots.  I'm going to have to work this out.
Taren:  Well, while you work that out, I'll be worrying about working this food off later.

They all laugh.

Leera walks in with a bottle of whiskey in her hands.  She immediately notices Taren and Waverly eating.
Leera:  Hey, Guys.  What are you two doing eating in your dresses, before the photos?  You don't want get something on them.
Waverly:  I'm sorry.  We were hungry and the food was put out for us.
Taren:  And it's delicious.
Song:  I ate before I got dressed.  My biggest photo issue will be this hair.
Leera:  Well, I hate to be downer, but it will only take a few minutes for us to wrap up, so please put the plates in the refrigerator until we're done.  It took a while to make these dresses and we wouldn't want to stain them before the photos, right?
Waverly and Taren (reluctantly):  Okay.

The duo leaves to put their plates away.

Song:  No wine or champagne today?  The hard stuff, huh?
Leera:  This has been hard work.  Fun, but hard.  We deserve something a little stronger for our toast today.  Besides, this whiskey just got here, I was lucky to get my hands on it before someone else did. We may as well put it to good use.
Song:  Sounds good to me.  Why are there five glasses?
Leera:  The whole team is going to celebrate, which includes Dallas.  He's also going to get to take a photo with us.
Dallas (from behind the camera):  I can hardly wait!
Song (laughing):  Okay, Dallas.  Your shining moment will be here soon.

Taren and Waverly return and the photo taking begins.  They take several shots and narrow them down to the few they really like.

 Taren, Waverly, Leera and Song

Just to get the shoes in too.

And now Dallas gets his chance to be surrounded by beautiful women.

The gang's all here.

The shoot is over.  Taren prepares to cut the cake with the strawberries and kiwi on it.  Dallas prepares to pour the whiskey.

Song: I know we're done, but I was wondering if we could use this space for New Year's.  We'll have fun and see if anyone else has time to stop by for photos.
Leera: Good idea!  But the clothes have to be off the rack.  I need a short vacation.  Whew!  This has been quite the test.
Taren:  Everything you have made has been beautiful, Leera.  You do deserve a break.
Dallas:  I have certainly enjoyed being around you beautiful ladies.  I am definitely in for New Year's. They say the way you start the year is how your year will go.  So being with beautiful women is a great start to 2016.  Let's drink to that.

Dallas finishes pouring the whiskey, but before they can toast...

Waverly:  Hi, Everyone, we hope you have enjoyed our White Christmas photos.  We have enjoyed taking them and getting to know each other.  We especially want to thank Jewell at Doll-lightful for the delicious food we had earlier and that cake we're about to devour. Yum!  We'll be back in a few days to wish you a Happy New Year!  Take care and as always, thanks for stopping by.

It's Almost Christmas at the Flavor Cafe

It's two days before Christmas and Marisol is waiting on a customer at The Flavor Cafe.

Marisol:  Are you sure you don't want anything else?  This sandwich would like some company.
Customer:  So many things in this case are calling my name, but I just worked out and I am determined not to make weight loss a necessary resolution for 2016.
Marisol:  Yes.  There's always the New Year's goal to look good before the heat hits.
Customer:  With these high temperatures lately, it's like we're having a winter heatwave. Who would have thought I could dress like this in the winter?
Marisol:  Yes, it is unseasonably warm.

Customer:  Well, I will have to pass on getting something sweet today.  I already know I have to let myself go Christmas Day.
Marisol:  Okay.  I understand.  (Rings up the sale on the register) That will be $6.95, please.
Customer:  And worth every cent.  I love your sandwiches.

The customer hands Marisol the money and Marisol gives her change.

Marisol:  Thank you so much for stopping by and enjoying another sandwich.   Just as a reminder, we will be closing at 4:00 PM Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day.
Customer:  Okay.  Merry Christmas!
Marisol:  Merry Christmas to you!  Thank you!

The customer leaves.  After a few minutes, Rowan comes from the kitchen to quickly update Marisol on orders.

Rowan:  Mare, I just finished the last four orders for pick up today.  The Christmas Eve orders will be worked on right after regular stock tomorrow.  We'll cut down on the regular stock since we're closing early.
Marisol:  Don't we have an early morning pick up?
Rowan:  Yes, I'm going to work on it in a few minutes.  I'm just checking a few things with orders and confirming some New Year's orders too.  One customer already asked to increase the sandwiches and macarons.
Marisol:  Good.  Nice way to bring in a new year.  Increased sales of food.
Rowan:  Yep.  Well, I'm going to get going so we can get out of here on time today.

Rowan goes back to the kitchen.  Marisol has seven customers come in and buy items.  Then a customer comes in for her order.

Marisol:  Hello.  How are you today?
Isis:  I'm well, thank you.  Merry Christmas!
Marisol:  Merry Christmas!  It's nice to see a familiar customer come in.  How may I help you today?

Isis:  I'm sure you recognize me from my constant visits.  I'm addicted to this place.  Plus, you're conveniently located close to where I work.
Marisol:  I'm glad we can be here for you.  What can I get you today?
Isis:  I'm picking up an order for Knight, please.
Marisol:  Your order is in the kitchen.  I'll run and grab it and be right back.  Please give me a minute.
Isis:  Of course.  Thank you.

Marisol heads to the kitchen to get Isis' order.

While waiting for Marisol to return, Isis decides to look at a menu.  She's never looked at it because she usually orders from the case or the board.  Even when she placed her special order, she had simply asked if she could order the cheesecake and cupcakes.

Marisol returns with two boxes.

Marisol:  Here are both boxes of your delicious selections, made fresh for you.
Isis:  Great.
Marisol:  I see you are looking at the menu.  Would you like to add to your order?
Isis:  No, thank you.  I just thought I'd browse.  I'm going to take one with me for later.
Marisol:  Okay.  And before I forget, I would like to make sure you know that we will be closing at 4:00 PM Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day.
Isis:  Thank you.

Marisol opens the bottom box first to confirm that the cupcakes in it are the ones Isis ordered.  They are.  Then Marisol opens the next box for Isis to confirm it's the cheesecake she ordered.

Isis:  Tyson is going to love this.
Marisol:  Is Tyson your fiance?  I see the lovely ring on your finger.  Can I get a closer look, please?
Isis:  Yes, he is.  Thank you, and, yes, you can.

Isis holds up her ring so Marisol can see it better.
Marisol:  It's beautiful!  If you don't mind me asking, when is the big day?
Isis:  We are still working out the date.  But I think next summer.
Marisol:  A nice warm summer day will be perfect.  When you start looking for a caterer, please consider us.  We cater and we can do wedding cakes and all the desserts too.
Isis:  Do you make more than sandwiches and desserts?
Marisol:  Absolutely.  We keep it simple for the cafe.  Most people in the city are on the go and want something quick and easy.  But for events we can do almost anything.
Isis:  Oh!  I didn't know that.  I will certainly keep you in mind then.

Marisol:  Wonderful!  Well, I don't want to keep taking up your time.  Let me ring you up.

Marisol rings in the sale and Isis reaches for her purse to pay.  Isis pays and leaves.

Looks like everyone is getting ready for Christmas.

I hope you enjoy your holiday with family and friends. ~ Jaye
