Dani's Dream Business

'
Idania Nichols, whose nickname is Dani, is in her garage turned tiny bridal shop.  Right now Dani buys and sells used wedding gowns.  Brides who are looking for something older, a bargain and to be able to have something repurposed and/or tailored, love what Dani sells.  She is good at alterations and giving gowns new life.  Her desire is to design and sell her own wedding gowns.  But for now, she's operating out of her home, making space limited and bridal sales a part-time, by appointment only job.  Her full-time position is a customer service manager for a health care company.

Right now Dani is preparing for a client to arrive.  She has pulled some selections from her small stock based on the client's request for a certain style.

Dani (thinking to herself):  I hope these are good enough.  I don't know if I have anything else to meet her needs.  We'll just have to see.

As Dani is thinking, her husband, Zavier, walks into the room.

Zavier:  You look hard at work.  Is a new client coming?
Dani:  Yes, she should be here any second now.  I am just reviewing the dresses she is going to try on.  What do you think?
Zavier (laughs):  I think they look like wedding gowns.
Dani (laughing):  Very funny.  I should know better than to ask.  The answer is always the same.  I should know to stick with female opinions only.
Zavier:  Basically.  Even standing at the altar, all we're worried about is what's going on or coming off for the honeymoon.

They hear the bell for the garage/bridal shop door.  Zavier excuses himself and goes into the house while Dani lets her client in.  Her client's name is Sara and she is accompanied by her friend, Amy.

Amy:  Wow!  These look like good options, Sara.  I can't wait to see how they look on you.
Sara:  Stand in line.  I've been looking forward to this.  Dani, the selection looks good. Where do we start?

Dani:  I think we should start with the one that most closely fits what you are envisioning.  Please keep in mind that other selections sometimes trump what you think is what you want.
Sara:  Okay.  I'll do that.
Dani:  If you like certain things about a gown and would like some alterations, I can do that as well.
Amy:  So pick the first one so we can get started.

Sara picks a long sleeved gown and Dani shows her the small fitting room in the corner of the room so she can try it on.  Sara returns after she has the gown on and has looked at herself in the mirror.

Sara:  So what to you think about this one, Amy?
Amy:  I don't know.  Those ruffles are not very becoming on you.  Maybe something without so many ruffles will work.
Sara:  I think you're right.  On to the next one.

Sara grabs her next choice and tries it on.

Dani:  This one has a princess look to it.  What do you think about it?
Sara:  I don't know.  There's something about the flappy collar that I don't think looks good on me.
Amy:  Those side flaps at the waist aren't flattering your hips.
Dani:  Would you like alterations on this or is it the entire gown that you don't like?
Sara:  I think it's just the gown.
Dani:  Let's pick another one.  I'll also grab a veil to try on with it.  I think it may help to get a full look at a completed ensemble.
Amy:  That would be nice.

Sara picks the next gown and Dani gets the veil.

Dani:  The lace of the veil is a pretty decent match for this particular gown.  But there are certainly other options.  I can even make a custom veil.  But this works for a quick view of what a veil will look like with this gown.
Sara:  Can you move it back, please?  I want it more toward the back of my head. I think it could overwhelm my face.  I really want it to just be an accessory.
Dani:  Of course I can.
Amy:  I like this one.  All of that beautiful lace at the top is pretty.  (squeals) Yes!  This is the one.  This is the 'I Do' dress.
Sara (excitedly):  I think you're right, Amy.

Sara:  Dani, you are so right.  I would not have picked this one up first, but it does have lace, as I thought I would want, and these half sleeves instead of the long sleeves are perfect.
Dani:  I'm so glad you like it.  I can see I do need to make some adjustments to ensure the fit is perfect on you.
Sara:  Yes.  I also would like to make some minor changes to the bottom.  Can you do that?
Dani:  I can make whatever alterations you would like.
Sara:  So what do we do next?
Dani:  I will take a non-refundable deposit of 50% for the gown before I make the alterations.  Then you can pay the balance when you pick it up.
Sara:  Great!

Dani takes notes of the alterations Sara would like, then takes her measurements.  Sara gets dressed, pays the deposit, thanks Dani and she and Amy leave.  Zavier hears Sara and Amy pull off in the car, so he goes to talk to Dani.

Zavier:  How did it go, Honey?
Dani:  Wonderful.  I sold a gown.
Zavier:  You are so sexy when you do your thing.
Dani:  Thank you.  So, what's for dinner?
Zavier:  I ordered out.  I figured you wouldn't want to cook after working and I don't want to cook.  It will be here soon.
Dani:  Okay.  I need to have a seat for a minute.

Dani stares ahead, thinking.

Zavier:  You look deep in thought.  What's going on in your head right now?
Dani:  I'm just daydreaming about having my own shop, as usual.  It may never be a reality to have more than this shop in the garage, but I can't help but fantasize about it.
Zavier:  I know.  But maybe we can find a way to make it a reality.  I would love to see you have your own shop.
Dani:  Thank you for supporting me, Zave.  We'll see.

A New Skill: Re-Rooting

Years ago, before I ever thought about a diorama or making doll stories, I wanted to learn to re-root and repaint fashion dolls.  I even bought a box of random dolls (which I later disposed of - Insert Gasp here) and a book to help me get started.  Well, it wasn't until recently that I found the courage to try because one of my crafting idols, My Froggy Stuff, made a video.  I mean, I had actually watched several videos before, but that one inspired me.

So off I ran to the craft store to get some yarn and try out re-rooting with the knot method.  Can I just say I had other methods in mind and even bought a tool to use to push the hair into the head (yes, I already have some hair too). yet never tried that method?  I am hooked on the knot method.  I found it easy and sturdy.  No need for messy glue. The process is simple and even when I needed to create a new hole, instead of using an existing one, it was easy to do.

I already had someone in mind for a re-root since I purchased her pretty cheap and she had a horrible hair cut.  So here is my first victim model.

As you can see, she is really enjoying her hair and feeling sexy.

Yes! She is enjoying herself showing the different ways she can now style her hair.

Well, okay now!  Work it, Girl, with your side pony.

Looking classy (I even included a short part in her head).  You rpobably can't see it clearly in these photos, but I wanted hair with shine, which can be hard to get in cotton yarn.  However, I found a metallic black that looks shiny.  Bingo!

A couple more girls around here will be paying a visit to the beauty salon.  But I guess that means I actually have to get the beauty salon up and running.  I can't miss out on the opportunity to work things into the stories.

Good Fortune for Two?

At the Flavor Café

Rowan:  Would you like anything else with your pastry and coffee?
Waverly:  Thank you, but no. I will pass.
Rowan:  Okay.  Let me ring you up... (rings the sale in)...the total is $10.50, please.
Waverly:  I have cash.

Waverly goes into her handbag and pulls out her wallet.  The door opens and in walks Erwyn and Ember.  They have stopped by to pick up some food.

Waverly takes the money out of her wallet and hands it to Rowan, who makes change and gives it to her.

Rowan:  Would you care for a bag?
Waverly:  I don't need one.  This won't last long, but thank you for the offer.
Rowan:  Thank you!  Please be sure to stop by around Saint Patrick's Day.  We're working on some tasty treats you may like.
Waverly (smiling):  Sounds goodI will keep that in mind.

Waverly turns to walk out and Ember moves to the counter where Rowan greets her.

Waverly smiles at Erwyn on her way to the door.

Waverly:  Hi. You are such a pretty girl.  What's your name?
Erwyn smiles, then hesitates because Waverly is a stranger.

Ember (noticing Erywyn's hesitation):  It's okay.  You can tell her.
Erwyn:  Okay.  Hi, my name is Erwyn.  What's yours?
Waverly:  Oh!  A pretty name for a pretty girl.  My name is Waverly.  It's nice to meet you.
Erwyn:  Thank you.

Waverly waves at Erwyn and walks out the door and Erwyn walks over to the area where there are drinks.

Erwyn:  Mommy, can I get something to drink too, please.
Ember:  Sure, Baby.  Think about what you want and we'll get it before we leave.  Right now we need to order some food for dinner.  Do you know what you would like?
Erwyn:  I want this orange drink.
Rowan:  That is a delicious drink.  Don't forget to look at the other ones to be sure you make the best choice.
Erwyn:  Okay.  Thank you.

Ember orders a couple of sandwiches.  Rowan tells her the order will be ready shortly and then heads to the kitchen to give it to Marisol, who is on kitchen duty for the day.  Ember and Erwyn have a seat at the table.

Ember:  Are you thinking about your drink?
Erwyn:  Yes, I know what I want, but I'll keep looking in case I change my mind.
Ember:  Okay.  While you do that, I'm going to read and send some messages.

As they are sitting, Rowan returns, just in time to greet the next customer.  Trillian has walked in.

Rowan:  Hello.  Welcome to the Flavor Café.
Trillian:  Hello.  How are you?
Rowan:  I'm a good.  Thank you for asking.  What can I get for you today?

Trillian:  Well, I thought I'd pick up some cupcakes to take home today.  My girls really don't need the sugar, but I can't help but spoil them.
Rowan:  Which cupcakes would you like?  Do they have a preference?
Trillian:  I think I'll mix them up.

Trillian turns and looks at the door.

Trillian:  I'm sorry.  I'm waiting for my sister-in-law to come in.  She saw something at that clothing store a couple of doors down.  I thought she would be in soon.  I wanted her to help me choose.
Rowan:  It's okay.  There's plenty of time.  We can wait for her.

After a few minutes, Seiko walks in the door.

Trillian:  Did you see something you like?
Seiko:  I saw several things I like.  I just need to figure out how to get them.

They both laugh.

Rowan (to Ember and Erwyn):  It won't be much longer for your food order.  It should be out soon.
Ember (without looking up):  Okay.  Thank you.

Erwyn (seeing Seiko):  Mommy, that lady is really pretty.
Ember (still engrossed in her phone and her own thoughts): That's of you nice, Honey.  Is she as pretty as you?
Erwyn:  Yes.  She's very pretty.
Ember:  Okay.  That's nice of you to notice.  Did you decide on a drink?
Erwyn:  Yes.

Trillian:  Doesn't everything look delicious, Seiko?
Seiko:  Yes, everything looks pretty and tasty.  Are we getting different ones?  I want to try them all.
Rowan:  That is a good idea.
Trillian (laughing): I think we can get several, but not them all.
Rowan:  Okay.  Whatever you'd like.  You may also want to take a look at the menu and we have specials.

Erwyn seems mesmerized by Seiko.

Erwyn:  Mommy, that pretty lady is also really tall and she has pretty hair.

Hearing that finally catches Ember's full attention and makes her look up at Seiko.  Now she sees why Erwyn keeps talking about her.

Trillian:  I think we'll need a dozen cupcakes, some chocolate, some vanilla.  What other flavors do you have?
Rowan:  We have strawberry with kiwi, chocolate chip, raspberry, which is really good.
Seiko:  They all sound good.

They make their selections, but not all of the cupcakes Rowan mentioned are in the case.  Some are in the kitchen. Rowan heads to the kitchen to get them and Ember's order.  Ember stands up and walks over to Seiko and Trillian.

Ember:  Hello
Seiko and Trillian both say hello.
Ember (to Seiko): I hope I'm not being intrusive, but my name is Ember Winters and I own a talent agency wherein I represent models.  Have you ever thought about modeling?
Seiko (surprised):  Me?  No...no, I couldn't be a model.
Ember:  Yes, you could be.  You have the height, the beauty, the physique.  How old are you, if you don't mind me asking?
Seiko:  I'm seventeen.  I will be eighteen soon.
Ember:  That's a good age.  You don't have to make a decision now.  Maybe you could give it some thought.  I can give you my contact information and we can set up some time to meet and discuss it in more detail, if you're interested.

Trillian (surprised, smiling and excited):  Seiko, I think that is a good idea.  This could be just the thing we are looking for.  A job for you, amongst other things.
Seiko:  Do you really think so?
Trillian:  It won't hurt to hear some details and ask some questions.
Ember:  You don't have to commit to anything until you're ready to commit.  We can just sit and talk. and you can take your time to consider it.

Seiko:  Alright.  My name is Seiko Watanabe and Trillian is my sister-in-law.
Ember:  It's nice to meet you both.

Ember and Seiko shake hands and then Ember goes to the table and gets a card out of her handbag.  She gives it to Seiko.  Rowan returns with Trillian's  and Ember's orders and Trillian pays for hers.  She and Seiko leave after saying good bye.   Erwyn gets her drink and it gets placed in the bag with the sandwiches.  Rowan starts ringing up the food.

Ember (to Erwyn):  You were a big help to Mommy today.  I'm going to have to hire you as my assistant.
Erwyn:  Really?
Ember:  Yes.  And, as your first payment, you also get to have not one, but two treats today.  That's how good an assistant you were today.  What would you like?
Rowan:  Wow!  You must have been a wonderful helper today.  Two treats!  Congratulations!

Erwyn is excited and chooses cookies and a cupcake.  Ember pays and they head home.  She's hopeful Seiko will call.
